Introductory

Beaver Ecology and Surveying gives a thorough overview of these fascinating ecosystem engineers. We look at how we can protect and monitor them within the legal guidance. Beavers are living in various parts of the UK now and are transforming our rivers and wetlands. This biodiversity champion is now firmly accepted as a British wildlife species once again. Now is the time to find out more about them, as beaver experts will be needed across the country as their populations grow. They have been a UK-protected species since 2022. 

This is the equivalent of our one-day beaver course, delivered online. If you are interested in a more hands-on experience, check our face-to-face courses to see if there is any availability in your area.

There are two videos in this course.

Beaver Ecology and Surveying Course Outline:

Video 1 – Beaver Ecology and Survey Techniques – in this video, we will cover beaver ecology, history, introductions, beavers in Europe and field signs with your tutor Sue Searle BSc, PGDip, MCIEEM, Principal Ecologist. Playing Time: 1hr 25 mins.

Video 2 – Beaver Field Signs – In this video, your tutor takes you out searching for beaver signs along the River Otter in Devon and at the Cornwall Beaver Project. Playing time 12 mins.

At the end of the course there will be a short quiz. If you get over 70% you will receive a Certificate.
