Introductory

Badger Ecology and Surveying is an online course designed for any ecologist or environmental worker likely to encounter badgers as part of their work. Badgers are fully protected by UK law and are frequently encountered on development sites. It is, therefore, important that ecologists understand badger ecology, how to recognise their field signs and how to survey them. This course will give you a thorough introduction to all these topics and the legislation surrounding badgers in the UK.

Course Description:

This introductory-level course is delivered via two online videos, hosted by Siue Searle, Principal Ecologist from Ecology Training UK with over 20 years of experience with badgers.

Course content:

  • Rural and urban badger ecology
  • Identification of field signs
  • Surveying for badgers
  • Legislation

During the course your tutor will take you out to visit a badger sett to help you identify field signs.

Badger Ecology and Surveying Course Format:

This course is delivered on videos presented by Principal Ecologist, Sue Searle, BSc, PGDip, MCIEEM. It is the same content as our one-day Badger Ecology and Surveying course.

Video 1 covers badger ecology, field signs, sett types, survey techniques, data collection and legislation with a brief overview of Bovine TB and badgers. Playing time 1hr 18 mins.

Video 2 – Sue takes you out into the field and shows you badger signs and setts. She also shows you how to put out a trail cam and there is some footage of badgers from the trail cam taken at the sett. Playing time 18 mins.

At the end there will be a short quiz and if you get over 70% you will receive a Certificate.

I have just spent my evening completing your online Badger Ecology and Surveying course and would like to pass on my thanks to you and those involved for putting it together. It was thoroughly informative and its format made everything easy to digest. I particularly like the fact that the videos were hosted on YouTube as its video player is already so comfortable to use
