Ecology Consultancy – 6-step Career Kick-starter Program

*** NEXT ONE STARTS 3rd March 2022 Book now to secure your place – every Thursday 7-8.30pm.***

Who is this for?

Are you struggling to get an interview or need some more confidence to start applying for jobs in ecological consultancy? Or do you want to know what to do next to get into this exciting career?

Ideally you would need a relevant degree or a fair amount of experience and would like to get into Ecology Consultancy as a career but if you lack these we might still be able to help get your career on track.

What is the objective of the program?

To give you the confidence to move your career plan forward, gain the skills and knowledge you need and to start applying for jobs*. During the program you will explore your current and missing skills, how to get experience, how to improve your CV and apply for jobs, which jobs are best for you and what to expect in your first job and how to get it to work for you. You will also have a clear career plan. All the way through the programme we will look at what might be holding you back, and how to feel more confident in your career aspirations. We will be supporting you to feel ready to apply for jobs.

You may be advised to take more training depending on where the gaps are in your skill set and this will most likely take longer than the 6 week program. You may also feel you want to get more experience outside the workplace before applying for jobs so we give tips on getting experience.

*this is not a training course, more of a coaching/mentoring program. If you need further training it is available at extra cost.

What is Ecological Consultancy?

People who are passionate about wildlife who work professionally in consultancy doing surveys, writing reports and supervising site works. Our main clients are usually architects, developers, landowners and councils.

We work mainly on development projects to find the best outcome for wildlife, especially protected species such as bats, dormice, badgers, water voles and more. We do this by doing surveys, assessing impacts, giving advice on reducing or mitigating impacts and writing reports.

You may also get involved in a range of other wildlife-related projects including habitat management plans, biodiversity net gain, environmental impact assessments and more!

What makes this a good career for me?

If you are passionate about wildlife, love being outdoors, have good organisational and writing skills, like a challenge, love learning and want career progression, then this could be the career for you.

Ideally you would have a relevant degree and some experience to put onto your CV. If you are lacking any of these get in touch and we may need to find an alternative path for you and your particular circumstances.

More about this program

This is a short 6-week program to work on getting you ready for this career. The idea is to prepare a career plan, CV, skills and more to make sure you have the best opportunity to gain employment.

Each week you will be provided with some materials to go through and there will be a 1.5 hour webinar on Thursday evenings to discuss and think about these topics and you will be provided with a workbook to work through and make notes to help you clarify what you need to do next. Between webinars you will have tasks that you decide to carry out to move your career forward.

The 6 steps:

1.What is an ecological consultant and is it for me?

This session covers:

  • The role of the ecological consultant
  • Consultancies as businesses

4. Getting experience and knowledge

  • Getting experience to get noticed
  • How to get experience and where
  • Working towards protected species survey licences
  • Identifying what training and skills you need to get jobs

By the end of this session you will know a lot about how to get experience and how to approach people that can help. You will also have more clarity on what further training you may need. If you have any experience ideas to share with the group that would be greatly appreciated!
