This course is for companies involved with vegetation clearance and need to know about protected and invasive species. This will help your company to protect wildlife and stay within the law. This BASIC course is for operatives and supervisors, a more advanced course for Team Leaders and Managers is also available. The course is a 3 hour session on Zoom so people can watch it from home, at work, in their vehicles or in a meeting room. The course includes a short quiz and a certificate for those getting over 70%.

This course covers:
- Protected species – legislation and which species are protected. It covers specifically the field signs, ecology and do’s and don’ts for dormice, badgers, bats, water voles, otters, great crested newts, reptiles and nesting birds.
- Habitats – which protected species live in what habitats and the habitats that are protected.
- Invasive species – the big 3 – Himalayan Balsam, Giant Hogweed and Japanese Knotweed – the problem, identification, treatment and do’s and don’ts. Includes a brief mention of other invasive.
- Working on or near protected sites e.g. nature reserves.
- Habitat enhancement – grassland, woodland and trees.
