Bat Sound Analysis for Beginners: 2nd March 2027

2nd March 2027
1 day
No Prerequisite

This course will be taught by Rich Flight, who is an experienced ecologist, arborist, and licensed bat worker. He has been teaching training courses for 15 years and also provides bat sound analysis training for the Bat Conservation Trust.

During the day’s sessions, Rich will cover the following topics:

  • What a bat call is
  • Equipment
  • Recording bats
  • Sonograms
  • Types of bat call
  • How to measure parameters of a bat call
  • Basic species identification
  • Software

After the live webinar, you will receive a link to a short quiz. If you score 70% or higher, you will receive a digital certificate of attendance to add to your CPD record.

Software

The training is designed to be as interactive as possible. There will therefore be segments of the day where you will be asked to use your own computer to analyse bat calls. For this, you will need access to a sound analysis program.

Before the course, please ensure you have access to Kaleidoscope.

Although we will discuss various programs, and you may use one of a variety of programs outside of the course, it is easiest if all participants download and use Kaleidoscope, as this is the program that will be used on the day.

Location

The course will be held as a live webinar on Zoom. We will send an email reminder with the Zoom link closer to the time.

Timings

The course starts at 9:30 am and finishes around 4 pm, with a break for lunch.
