Join us for an inspiring week-long trip to experience the wildlife and ecology of boreal forests and wetlands in central Sweden. 23rd-30th June 2024!

Highlights will include canoeing through beaver territories, exploring ancient boreal forests, stunning wild flower meadows, wetlands and huge raised bogs.  We also hope to see plenty of charismatic northern flora and fauna such as elk, wild boar, white-tailed eagles, beavers and hares.

Led by Stefan Taylor, who has been leading wildlife trips here since 2017 and our own Sue Searle, Principal Ecologist and Senior Tutor for ETUK.

Your guides for the week – Sue and Stefan

There will be daily excursions by Land Rover, but also free time to explore on foot or by bicycle (bike rental extra – £10 approx per day) during the long daylight hours of the northern summer.

  • Transfers from Vasteras train station to the accommodation
  • Accommodation in twin room (single supplement of £50)
  • All meals.
  • Transport to locations during the stay.

Canoe trip will be £25 for the evening – payable by card at the end of the trip. You will need to book a flight to Stockholm Arlanda from London Heathrow, Gatwick or Stanstead then a train to Vasteras train/bus terminal around 90 minutes away – pick-up will be from Vasteras.

Here is one person’s testimonial from the trip in 2023:

“This trip to Sweden has been the best trip I’ve had. Sweden is such an incredible place to visit and exceeded my expectations. Stefan was a very knowledgeable guide and catered to everyone’s needs, ensuring we saw a variety of species, including over 100 bird species and several mammal species, including elk, beaver, wild boar & red squirrel and reptiles including my first ever adder! We also had plenty of down time to relax and  I particularly enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching a Montague’s Harrier and White Tailed Eagle hunting in the fields opposite.

What really made this week special were the fabulous group of people I was with, like minded people, who I feel I have learnt so much from. In many ways I feel like this trip has been life changing. I hope the people I shared the experience with will remain life-long friends.”
