Dormouse Ecology and Surveying is an introductory-level, self-study course that will provide a useful first step towards gaining your dormouse handling licence. This course will give you a thorough understanding of Dormouse ecology and the techniques used to survey them. We will provide you with all the key information you need when working towards your dormouse training licence. Once you have completed the course, your trainer can sign the appropriate sections of your Dormouse Training Log.

As a UK-protected species, understanding dormouse ecology and surveying is key for any ecologist, conservationist or land manager likely to come across them.

During the course we will cover:

  • Dormouse ID, ecology and conservation
  • Legislation
  • Habitat Management
  • Survey techniques
  • Nut and nest ID
  • Principles of handling, aging, sexing and weighing dormice
  • How to carry out a dormouse nest box check
  • How to set up a dormouse nest tube survey

Our experienced tutor will give you the knowledge to work confidently towards your licence, manage habitats appropriately or learn more about these endearing creatures.

This a comprehensive course with a lot of content. Allow time to stop the videos frequently to make notes and do further reading as directed.
