What this year’s students say about their course where we had to deliver the course as videos and webinars with a two-day field course later in the year::

I would definitely recommend this course.

It covered all the skills and background knowledge needed to get started in ecological consultancy. Despite being unable to attend the core week on site in Devon, the videos and documents provided allowed us to get started with practical work, including Phase 1 Habitat Mapping and species identification in our local areas, and also using online ecology resources.

Sue was available to elaborate on the course content, recommend reference material and equipment, and answer questions during the webinars.  A daily quiz helped consolidate our learning.

The videos you made gave a great insight into the topics and it was really helpful to be able to pause the video to write everything down or go back a few minutes if I didn’t quite understand the first time.

The live meetings on Zoom were really great to meet everyone, share experiences and hear answers to questions cropping up from watching the videos. The structure of the course was maintained well and it’s a logical progression through the week. Obviously it is a lot better to be all together in a classroom and being able to conduct the field work but as an alternative i feel it worked well and i learnt a lot.

Bespoke Courses

Our bespoke training courses are aimed at people working in the construction/development industry who need to know about ecological requirements on the sites they work on. We can provide training to groups of ecologists or those who need to be aware of protected species and wildlife law. Please speak to us about your requirements for training. Our courses can count towards CPD.

For ecological consultants or conservation organisations:

Badger surveying, licensing and mitigation – working with badgers? We can put together a bespoke course to suit you.

Bat Licence Training – do you have several people in your consultancy that are ready for their bat licence? We can arrange to do a Revise and Assess course at your premises.

also available:

How to write EPSL’s – bats and dormice

How to write Badger Mitigation licences

For non-ecologists dealing with wildlife on their projects:

Protected Species Awareness

Are you a Developer, Architect, Road/Rail vegetation clearance company or a Contractor? Then this popular course is for you.

With so much protected species legislation these days it is important for people to be aware of protected species on site and to know when to call an ecologist.

When developing, clearing or managing sites, are you aware of your legal obligations with regards to protected species? Do you really know how to identify protected wildlife and when a breach in legislation may occur? Does your organisation have the right policies, procedures and training in place to avoid breaking the law with regards to wildlife?

ecology trainingWith recent changes and strengthening in protected species legislation, more and more organisations are finding they need an awareness of protected species to avoid falling foul of the planning system or the law.

We can offer a thorough and cost-effective training package covering protected species legislation, ecology, identification and field signs, an overview of mitigation and enhancement measures, and dos and don’ts.

The course will be taught by experts in their field, all full members of CIEEM and Principal or Senior Ecologists with many years experience so delegates can ask as many questions as they like to make sure they fully understand the material.

This course is usually covered in a day, but we can tailor it to suit your requirements. Please let us know if there is something specific you need from the course. We are always happy to discuss the course outline with you. We can host courses at our training centres, or come to your place of work. Where possible, we will try and incorporate a field visit where appropriate.
